OPERATING GUIDELINES FOR SMF / VRLA BATTERIES

    •   Constant voltage current limited charging as per the charging specification table – 3 for optimum performance / life.
    •   For operating temperature more or less 25°C, apply the correction factor for charging voltage as per as the table given below.
    •   Immediate recharging recommended after discharge to avoid battery capacity loss.
    •   For deep discharging application re-charging time to be increased by 1.5 to 2 times for the normal charging (On float 24 hrs and On boost 16 hrs charging) time
            before it undergoes next cycle.
    •   Never use new and old batteries in series. Batteries of different capacities and different manufacturer should never be used in same bank, Parallel string not
            recommended. Avoid bypassing the lower cutoff protection which will allow the battery to go into deep discharge.
    •   Continuous boost charging is not recommended for more than 24 hours to avoid over charging.
    •   Replace any defective if abnormalities noticed on voltage, heat, electrolyte leakage or physical deformation.
    •   If the battery is stored more than 03 months, boost charging for 09 hours recommended before the battery is put in deformation.
    •    Once in 06 month the batteries should be equalization charge at 13.8 volts per modules.
    •   Do not reverse charge the battery.
    •   Never bend the terminals not solder directly.
    •   Use proper size connector for the inter connection and end connection. Avoid loose/bad connection.
    •   Battery shall be secured against impact, vibration and heat source.
    •   Keep top of the battery clean and dry.
    •   Do not short the terminal directly.
    •   Transport the battery in the upright position.



      Caution

      •   Keep the battery away from sparks, cigarettes and open flame.
      •   Avoid the metallic contact across the terminal.
      •   In case of acid leakages due to container crack, do wash it with water immediately.
      •   Do not install the battery without removing the packing cover.
        Avoid charging in air tight container.

    Temperature compensation coefficient - Reduce 3mv / cell per °C increase in temperture in standby use and 5mv / cel per °C cycle use. Recommended operating temperature is 10°C - 35°C

    Battery cyclic life is highly dependent on the depth of discharge that the battery experiences during each cycle. The various number of cycles related to the depth of discharge is shown  in the graph.

    The capacity of a GOLD STAR battery is the amount of electrical energy that can be obtained from a full changed cell. The capacity is expressed in Ampere Hours(AH). The capacity value is dependent on the discharge current, the temperature during discharge and the final cutoff voltage.

    During storage, batteries gradually lose their capacity due to self – discharge. GOLD STAR’s self – discharge rate is low typically ≤3% month at 25°C. However, it is recommended that specific precautions to taken to prevent the battery from over self-discharging when it is stored in a cool, dry place. They should not be exposed to sunshine, or other source of radiant heat like radiators,   heating units, stoves, stem, pipes etc. Recommended storage temperature is 10°C to 25°C. Humidity should be as low as possible.
